Description from the seller
A0000003790
The Montblanc 642 fountain pen presented in this lot is in a highly notable state of conservation, with an overall elegant appearance and well-preserved, typical of an instrument that has been cared for over time.
The gold-plated cap, with its characteristic vertical striated finish, retains a deep and homogeneous shine. The surface largely preserves its original luster, with only light micro-scratches from superficial use, normal on a vintage piece, without visible loss of plating or notable dents. The clip is straight, firm, and correctly aligned, maintaining its original tension.
The black resin body presents an equally clean look, with a deep polish that reflects light well. Fine micro marks of use are visible, typical of the passage of time, but there are no cracks, deformations, or structural damage. The engravings of the model “642” and the “M” brand on the rear part of the body remain sharp and perfectly legible.
The Montblanc emblem on the top of the cap is in very good condition, with well-defined contours and no appreciable loss of material.
The 14C gold nib, engraved with the classic mountain motif and the inscriptions “14C – Montblanc – 585,” is in excellent visual condition. The feeder tines are properly aligned and the iridium point shows good integrity. The ebonite feed is clean and well preserved.
The pen has been checked and tested, ensuring proper writing functionality.
Overall, this is a very well-preserved example, with an aesthetically very attractive presence and discreet, coherent signs of use consistent with its age.
Conservation recommendations
To preserve this piece in optimal condition, it is recommended to use high-quality inks specific for fountain pens, avoid pigmented inks, clean the system with lukewarm water if it is not used for a while, dry it properly before storing, and keep it in a dry place, away from direct light and extreme temperatures. Always operate the filling system gently to prolong the mechanism’s life.
It will be shipped in a courtesy box for proper preservation.
Happy bidding!
