Ottoman/Levantine decorative wooden box, inlaid and carved wood with a textile-lined interior, dating to 1850–1900 and made in Turkey; dimensions 16.7 × 11.7 × 8.4 cm and in good condition with signs of age.
Description from the seller
Intarsia and carved wood box with Ottoman/Levantine taste – Oriental casket with floral motifs and birds – late 19th/early 20th century
Description
A refined decorative box in inlaid and carved wood, crafted with an Eastern-inspired aesthetic and featuring rich geometric and floral decoration.
The object presents a rectangular structure with a raised lid, embellished by slender inlaid bands with geometric motifs and hand-carved panels depicting birds and stylized vegetal elements. The central lid is decorated with an elegant relief panel, while the sides show consistent, highly ornamental workmanship. In style and decorative technique, the casket recalls craft productions from the Levantine and Ottoman area, probably Syria, Palestine, or a Middle Eastern region, made between the late 19th and early 20th centuries for the European Grand Tour and Orientalist market.
Natural wood interior with original textile lining inside the lid.
A piece with strong decorative and collectible value, ideal for collectors of Oriental art, writing desk items, antique chests, and eclectic furnishings.
