Hammered copper and brass cigarette box with silvered finishes, a Belle Époque table tabacchiera of French origin dating from 1850–1900, in good condition with age patina, dimensions 11.5 × 8.5 × 3.5 cm.
Description from the seller
Hammered silver-plated copper cigarette box / table tobacco humidor with engraved scene “La Joie du Grand-Père” – France/Belgium – late 19th/early 20th century
Description
Elegant table box in Belle Époque taste, made of hammered metal with wooden interior and a refined lid engraved with the scene titled “La Joie du Grand-Père” (“The joy of grandfather”).
The object features a structure likely in hammered copper and brass, with silvered/nickeled finishes on the edges and on the top panel. The lid is decorated with a refined engraving in 19th-century taste depicting a grandfather surrounded by children in a garden, accompanied by the wording:
“La Joie du Grand-Père” and the signature: “D’AP. Morgan Ptre”.
The interior is lined with wood, a detail typical of boxes intended to store cigarettes, tobacco or small desk accessories, as well as an element that adds to the object’s build quality.
The side hammered motif recalls Arts & Crafts and Jugendstil productions of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with French or Franco-Belgian influences.
Decorative and collectible item, ideal for vintage interiors, studies, desks or collections dedicated to antique smoking accessories.
