Description from the seller
Tripod-footed smoked-glass coupe edited by the Czechoslovak Rosice Glassworks, then part of the Inwald glass-making group, in the 1930s-1940s. This iconic piece of the Art Deco style appeals with its bold geometric design and the elegance of its stepped volumes. Its broad, flared silhouette and sculptural pedestal testify to the refinement of Central European decorative arts during the interwar period.
The coupe features a corolla-shaped form with a wavy edge, animated by deep radiating ribs converging at the center. The smoked glass, in a translucent olive-grey tone, is darker along the rim, which accentuates the fluid movement of the contour. The bowl alternates smooth, glossy surfaces with a satin-finished pedestal featuring relief textures evoking a hammered or mineral décor. The three arched feet, powerfully stylized, give the whole piece an architecturally distinctive Art Deco look typical of Czech-Slovak productions.
The overall condition is very good. The glass retains all its clarity and brilliance, with no cracks or restorations. Only very slight chips are noted on the inner angles of two feet, visible up close but discreet once the piece is displayed. The ensemble remains very harmonious and particularly decorative.
Rosice Glassworks, founded in Moravia at the beginning of the 20th century, became during the interwar years one of the major centers of molded glass production in Czechoslovakia. Associated with the Inwald group and later with the large glass cooperatives that would become Sklo Union, it developed a repertoire strongly influenced by Art Deco and functionalism. Its creations emphasize contrasts of textures, dynamic lines and translucency effects, today representative of the revival of Czech-Slovak glass design.
Dimensions are:
- Height: 11.7 centimeters,
- Upper diameter: 25.1 centimeters,
- Base diameter: 14.2 centimeters,
- Weight: 925 grams.
The coupe will be carefully packaged and shipped promptly in a secure manner. In-store pickup and combined delivery are available. Photos are part of the description.
