A single cotton Gobelin wall tapestry in multicoloured tones depicting a rural alpine scene, dated 1950–1985, in excellent condition with minimal signs of wear, measuring 70 cm high by 1.55 m wide.
Description from the seller
Extremely beautiful Gobelin (wall tapestry). The rug is 70 cm high and 1.55 m wide and weighs about 600 g. The rug is woven with cotton. It is not completely clear who the weaver was. It could have been the Algemene Fluweel Weverij (AFW), based in Ledegem, Belgium; they produced many of these kinds of gobelins.
The tapestry was probably woven in the mid-20th century.
The wall tapestry depicts a rural scene in a mountainous area. It could be the Alps. In the image you can see mountains, with goats, cows, and a shepherd sitting on a country fence.
The wall tapestry likely once had a label. That could have been a label with the text: "Design: Rambouillet" marked with "Made in Belgium". These were high-quality reproductions of historic wall tapestries. Although the brand originated in France, production for the Belgian market was often carried out by renowned local weaveries, such as AFW.
This tapestry still looks particularly good. It is very clear that the tapestry is (artisanal machine-woven) and not painted. The different weaving threads and colors are clearly distinguishable. There are no signs of use visible.
This gobelin is a particularly beautiful and atmospheric wall decoration, which transports you back a few centuries!
The tapestry will be carefully packed and insured for shipment.
