This is an exquisitely crafted Japanese iron tsuba.
The surface features a powerful high-relief carving of a hawk catching a monkey, with intricate details on the hawk's feathers and a strong, impressive form. The hawk's eyes are inlaid with silver, creating a beautiful contrast with the dark iron base.
The reverse side features a maple leaf motif, a simple yet elegant design. This piece excels not only in practicality as a sword fitting but also in aesthetic appeal.
