Description from the seller
Rare and important first edition in volume of "Uno, nessuno e centomila," the last and most celebrated novel by Nobel Prize winner Luigi Pirandello, published in Florence by R. Bemporad & Figlio in 1926 and printed by Tipografia Giachetti of Prato. This precious specimen stands out as a numbered copy of the edition, bearing at the colophon the progressive number 9734 typeset to justify the edition. The absolute authenticity and the period conformity are guaranteed by the presence of two clear dry circular stamps of S.I.A.E., impressed respectively on the title page and on the colophon page. The volume is preserved in its original editorial paper binding for the front and back boards, with the latter still bearing the publisher’s catalog of Pirandello's works from the same publisher and the original price indication of 10 lire.
Stato di conservazione
The volume is in generally good preservation, appropriate for its age of about a hundred years, showing a significant period-appropriate conservation-restoration intervention. The original spine has, in fact, been entirely redone using contemporary paper with a similar texture and tone, an operation that restores structural stability to the volume while leaving visible the intervention to a trained eye. The original boards show widespread foxing and pronounced browning, especially along the outer margins. The edges and the inner margins of the pages have not been trimmed, preserving the book’s editorial flaws from the period, and show natural temporal browning along with small frays or micro-misses due to the delicacy of the paper. The interiors are stable and clean, with minimal foxing; only a slight vertical shadow trace at the center of the opening page of the “Libro Primo” is noted, caused by prolonged contact with an old bookmark removed, which does not affect the readability of the text in any way. Due to the natural dryness of the original binding glue, the inner binding shows partial structural give, making the volume a precious collectible to be handled with due care.
