Basse-cour - NO RESERVE, oil on wood panel from Belgium, dating to the 19th century (c.1890), depicting a poultry yard, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
Probably E. Verhoeven – Antique oil painting on wood – Henhouse / Poultry scene from around 1900
Finely executed henhouse scene with hens and a rooster in the interior of a rural stall. The work impresses with its warm lighting, the detailed rendering of the plumage, and the atmospheric depiction of straw and wood interior. Typical European genre painting of the late 19th or early 20th century with clear influences from Belgian-Flemish animal painting.
The painting is signed bottom left, presumably “E. Verhooven” (likely Verhoeven). Oil on wooden panel.
The work is housed in an elaborately crafted old gilded display frame with beautiful patina of age and use as well as exceptional depth; at one spot small splinters are missing (see photos).
