Springbank is considered the queen of Campbeltown: it is a family-run distillery, with a proudly artisanal style, uncompromising and inspired by tradition. Springbank, for example, is the only distillery of the approximately 110 active today to malt 100% of its own barley (strictly Scottish), which is then dried in manual kilns according to different degrees of peat.
At Springbank, three types of whisky are produced, which differ both in the peating of the barley and in the distillation: Hazelburn (an unpeated whisky, very smooth and fruity), Longrow (a peated whisky (about 50 ppm)) and Springbank (a lightly peated whisky (about 8-10 ppm)). The production of Springbank whisky takes up 80% of the annual work, while Longrow and Hazelburn split the remaining 20% equally.
Springbank 15 Year Old is a single malt that ages for 15 years in ex-sherry casks.
The nose offers hints of dark chocolate, red fruits and toffee. The palate is complex with a light peaty note, followed by notes of figs, raisins and vanilla. It ends in a long finish, with a note of leather.
