essay: Irène Battaille (Antwerp, May 26, 1913 - Caylus, December 13, 2012) was a Belgian painter, watercolorist and draftswoman.
She was a pupil at the Academy of Berchem and at the Higher Royal Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp, under Isidore Opsomer.
Her themes were landscapes, village views, flowers, still lifes and harbors. She painted in a neo-expressionist manner with a distinctive bright use of color. In the period 1960-1961 she ventured into non-figurative themes.
She is the mother of painter Eline Rausenberger (born Antwerp, 1944).
