Antique rectangular solid wood frame, entirely hand-worked and gilded with real gold leaf on a gesso and wax preparation, dating to c. 1850–1900, with external measurements 50.5 × 39 cm and internal 41.5 × 30 cm, in good overall condition with minor signs of age.
Description from the seller
Splendid Antique Frame in Gilded Wood with Pure Gold Leaf – 19th Century (Restoration Era / Louis-Philippe).
Magnificent rectangular solid-wood frame, entirely handcrafted and gilded with genuine gold leaf on a plaster and wax bole preparation.
The structure presents a classic and elegant "gola" profile, characterized by a perfect balance between smooth surfaces and finely carved ornamental details. The moulding is enriched by two orders of geometric decorations: on the outer profile runs a continuous fusarolo/elongated beading motif, while the inner ledge is delineated by a delicate and elegant rice-bead beading (an astragal of pearls). This alternation creates a play of light and shadow that enhances the brilliance of the gold, making the frame ideal for housing antique paintings as well as period prints or artistic mirrors.
The back of the frame bears witness to its authenticity and age, showing the typical woodworking of spruce or pine from the era, with signs of manual planning and a splendid natural dark patina developed over time.
The frame is presented in generally good conservation condition, showing a fascinating and genuine patina. There are small signs of time, slight natural cracks at the corner joints.
Packing will be carried out professionally using the most suitable materials to prevent any damage during transport.
