Description from the seller
Militaria Reservist’s Porcelain Bottle 1906-08 Infantry Regiment 136 Ornate Stopper
For sale is a beautiful, originally preserved Reservist’s bottle (field bottle) from the era of the German Empire (service period 1906–1908).
This historically valuable collectible belonged to Reservist Lance Corporal Corten, who served in the 4th Lorraine Infantry Regiment No. 136. The garrison towns at that time were Dieuze and Strasbourg (Alsace-Lorraine).
The bottle captivates with its detailed, hand-colored porcelain painting on both sides and the fully preserved, detachable metal ornamental stopper in the form of a drinking soldier. The original carrying cord in the Reich colors (black-white-red / red-black-beige) including tassels (tassels) is also present.
The details in brief
Front side (wax scene)
Central motif: A wax soldier with Pickelhaube and shoulder-held rifle in a winter landscape at the border.
Inscription at the top: “Who has guarded France’s border has as a soldier done something.”
personalization at the bottom: “Res. Gefr. Corten”
Regiment & place details: “8. d. 1. Kp. 4. Lothr. Inf. Rg. No. 136 / Dieuze Lothr. Straßburg Els.”
Service period: “1906 – 1908”
Back side (farewell and homecoming scenes)
Central motif: The large regimental number “136”, framed by a colorful floral and festive wreath.
Banner at the top: “PAROLE HEIMATH! Reserve has rest!” under a imperial crown.
Scenes on the left: * Soldiers at a communal toast by the barrel: “Brothers, raise your glasses, long live the Reservist!”
A steam train that brings the reservists home.
Scenes on the right:
Farewell to the beloved: “A heavy farewell and a joyful reunion.”
Happy homecoming at the front door.
Scene at the bottom: A soldier relaxing on a bench, celebrating his farewell.
stopper & accessories
Massive, detailed pewter- or metal-cap with a fully three-dimensional figure (a soldier sitting on a barrel, raising a mug). The stopper can be removed without issue.
Original, turned cord with two large ornamental tassels.
Condition
Age-appropriate, very good collector’s condition. The porcelain painting is colorfully fresh and legible.
No cracks or major breaks in the porcelain detectable.
The metal frame and the stopper show a beautiful, authentic patina. Mild, typical oxidation traces/dust deposits around the edge areas that underscore the untouched original character.
Upon closer inspection of the hand-painted applied service period “1906 – 1908” it becomes evident that the black overglaze color at the lower portion of the digits “6” and “8” has some wear or fading (see detail photo). The light porcelain background shines through minimally here.
