Description from the seller
Antique extendable wooden bookend – rich hand-carved decor
A beautiful and functional bookend with a warm appearance and refined hand-carved ornament. This charming piece combines practical usefulness with classic craftsmanship and forms a stylish addition to any interior.
The bookend is made of solid wood and features richly carved floral and foliate motifs. Especially eye-catching are the elegant end panels: openwork carving with a decorative leaf motif that gives the piece an elegant and artisanal look. The central panel is also adorned with detailed carving, making the object interesting from every angle.
Thanks to the clever extendable mechanism, the length can be easily adjusted. When retracted, it is a compact decorative object; extended, it provides ample support for a growing book collection. This makes it suitable for both small and larger sets of books and ideal for use on a desk, shelf, or sideboard.
This type of extendable bookend was particularly popular in the first half of the 20th century and was often used in studies and libraries. The warm wood, the classical design, and the artisanal carving make this piece a cozy collectible.
Condition: in good vintage condition with light signs of use appropriate to age and use. The extend mechanism functions well. See photos for a complete view of the condition.
A atmospheric combination of decoration and functionality for every book lover.
