Description from the seller
Description
Rare and powerful original print by Antoni Clavé, entitled Le trait rouge, from a numbered limited edition 10/25 and signed in pencil by the artist.
This monumental composition in black, white and red perfectly illustrates Clavé’s experimental work around matter and relief engraving. The work combines deep textures, embossing, visual collages and graphical elements evoking mechanical fragments or abstract architectures.
The famous “red line”, vertical and vibrant, traverses the composition like a scar or a tension line, contrasting with the black masses and the reserved areas of the paper. Here you find Clavé’s characteristic aesthetics: a dialogue between construction and erasure, between graphic violence and poetry of matter.
The work presents an exceptional richness of textures and reliefs, close to carborundum research and the materialist prints developed by the artist from the 1960s-1970s. Clavé frequently incorporated signs, nails, cords, imprints and three-dimensional structures into his engraved universe, deliberately blurring the boundary between painting, collage and engraving.
