Das dramatische Theater. Eine Monatsschrift für Theater, Musik, Literatur und Künste. 4 issues in 3 volumes complete (everything published) - Paul Zech (editor) / Fred Antoine Angermeyer (editor)
Leipzig: Schauspielverlag, 1924-[1925]. 3 volumes. Vol I (Heft 1): 60, [4] pages; Vol II (Heft 2): 61-121, [4] pages; Vol III (Heft 3/4): 122-248, [12] pages. 25.2cm x 19cm. Softcover in the publisher’s printed covers. First edition of everything published of “Das dramatische Theater” (1924–1925), a highly ambitious, short-lived German avant-garde magazine edited by Expressionist poet Paul Zech and dramatist Fred Antoine Angermeyer that served as a vibrant time capsule of Weimar Republic theater, literature, and art. Published across just three physical issues by the Leipzig Schauspiel-Verlag, it functioned both as a theoretical manifesto for an identically named Berlin theater company led by Wilhelm Dieterle and as a progressive cultural platform. Each issue contains contributions by both editors, alongside first printings by Blass, Csokor, Edschmid, H. Hardenberg, Herrmann-Neisse, Lasker-Schüler, Mombert, August Stramm, Bruno Taut, Ernst Weiss, among others. Features 13 full-page high-quality reproductions of works by Eddy Smith, Hans Poelzig, Hans Pape, Herbert Anger, and Ulrich Hallerstede as well as numerous in-text illustrations throughout. There are also some musical scores featured. Comes with a short prospectus that announced the magazine (2 folded leaves).
Slight rubbing, bumping, wear, and some tanning to the covers and spine. Pencil markings on the back cover of Vol II and pencil markings on the cover of Vol III. Occasionally some light creasing at the corners and the margins in all three volumes. Very little browning and spotting throughout in all 3 volumes. The text and illustrations are clear, the paper is crisp, and the binding is solid in all 3 volumes. Overall, a beautiful set in very good+ condition.
