Description from the seller
Elegant and rare sixteenth-century exemplar of the Psalterium Paraphrasibus illustrated, by Raynerus Snoygoudanus, printed in Lyon in 1542 by the Frellon publishers. Latin text with translation and paraphrase of the Psalms according to the tradition of Saint Jerome, accompanied by exegetical apparatus and commentaries of great interest for Renaissance humanistic and theological culture.
The volume presents a typographic title page with printer's mark and text laid out in a clear humanistic layout. The content gathers the entire Biblical Psalter, accompanied by paraphrases and explanations that facilitated study and meditation, making it a tool both liturgical and didactic.
Copy with signs of use and time (stains, browning, contemporaneous binding with evident wear and losses), but still solid and readable; 16.2x10.2 cm, pp.491,(5);
Missing the last index leaf, first leaf detached only at the bottom, defect on the rear cover in the lower hinge, stains at the inner joint (see photos).
Sixteenth-century edition Rare on the market, a significant witness of Lyonese book production and the diffusion of biblical texts in the humanist era. Work of notable interest for collectors and scholars of ancient books, the history of printing, and theology.
