Indochinite is a type of tektite. Tektites were ejected into the upper Earth atmosphere by a meteorite impact and then cooled to form the characteristic glassy structure. Indochites are black, unlike the green of European moldavites. It is estimated that these solidified magma bodies are about 700,000 years old. Indochinite, as the name indicates, is found in the Indochina Peninsula, in Australia and in the Pacific Micronesian islands up to China and in Indonesia to the north and west. The largest Indochinite is a Muong-Nong type tektite (layered tektites), which weighed 29.0 kilograms.
