Description from the seller
Large and decorative Chinese porcelain brush pot (Bitong)
The object impresses with surround, detailed hand-painting in the vivid colors of the Famille Verte/Rose palette (predominantly iron red, various greens, yellow and violet). Depicted is a classic, auspicious scene from scholar and court life: dignitaries and sages sit in the garden with tea and games at a table, surrounded by elegant court ladies (Meiren) and playing children (Boys at play), one of whom carries a flag – a traditional symbol for the wish for academic success and abundant offspring.
The upper rim is decorated with a circular Ruyi-head border, the base with a stylized wave border. On the unglazed bottom there is an empty double ring mark in underglaze blue (Double Ring Mark).
Body: Very solid, good overall condition for its age.
No hairlines or restorations detectable, a very good condition. The upper rim shows the typical, age-related minimal glaze wear (fritting/brownish discoloration) and manufacturing irregularities.
