Pillbox - .800 silver - Ernest Eschwege (1900)

Beautiful French silver pill box, decorated with a detailed relief (repoussé) of an elegant garland of leaves and a stylized bow.

Such boxes were historically often used as a snuff box, a pill box, or for storing other small trinkets.

Made by the French silversmith Ernest Eschwege (1866-1941) who was active from 1890 to 1921.

Furnished with the silver hallmark “crabe” and the master mark “ EE” and a small symbol of a diamond in the middle”.

After decades of careful collecting I have decided to part with (part of) my collection. I wish these special objects a place with a new enthusiast who understands the value of historical preservation. It is time that these pieces receive the attention they deserve, so that they are preserved for the distant future as well.
