Pair of French WW1 Trench Art Vases – 75mm Canon – 1914 & 1918
Description:
An exceptional and symbolic pair of original WW1 trench art vases, crafted from French 75mm artillery shells (Canon de 75mm de Campagne, Model 1897) — the most iconic artillery piece of the French armed forces during World War I.
Each vase bears a relief number in a circle with a textured background: one with 1914 (the start of the war) and one with 1918 (the end). Together they form a complete and meaningful time document of the Great War.
Details:
• Height: 34 cm
• Diameter (base): 8.5 cm
• Material: Brass
• Base stamp vase 1914: 75 DEC / SC — French state factory, lot number legible
• Base stamp vase 1918: 75 DE C / F.RE — another French state factory, lot number legible
• Condition: Excellent — professionally polished, original stamps intact
Special detail: the two shells come from two different French ammunition factories, underscoring the historical authenticity and rarity of this pair. Both were fired on the Western Front, presumably in the Somme or Verdun region. The decoration was subsequently applied as a personal memory of the full war period.
