Description from the seller
Val Saint Lambert “Eurel” Decanter Set with 3 Liqueur Glasses – Art Deco Crystal, Belgium, 1933–1947
An elegant Art Deco crystal set by Val Saint Lambert, Belgium, consisting of a large decanter with its original stopper and three matching small liqueur glasses from the celebrated “Eurel” service. The glasses are documented in the original 1933 Val Saint Lambert catalogue, while the service continued to appear in later production during the 1940s.
Entirely hand-cut, the pieces feature the characteristic vertical flat-cut decoration, creating a refined optical play of light and transparency. The geometric silhouette of the decanter combined with the sculptural stopper perfectly reflects the understated elegance of Belgian Art Deco crystal.
The original catalogue photograph confirms the authenticity and historical provenance of the model. In addition, examples from the Eurel service are currently presented in the special exhibition dedicated to Val Saint Lambert’s Art Deco production at the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Charleroi, further highlighting the importance and collectibility of this iconic design.
The decanter and glasses are in exceptional condition for their age: no chips, no cracks, no significant scratches, and even the original stopper remains undamaged, which is particularly rare. The crystal also remains beautifully clear, without internal cloudiness or haze.
A timeless and highly decorative ensemble, ideal for collectors as well as elegant Art Deco or modern interiors.
Val Saint Lambert, nestled in Seraing near Liège, Belgium, is a beacon of crystal craftsmanship with a legacy spanning nearly two centuries. Established in 1826 by chemist François Kemlin and engineer Auguste Lelièvre, the company transformed the remnants of the Val-Saint-Lambert Abbey into a thriving glassworks.
The 19th century marked a period of significant growth for Val Saint Lambert. By the early 1900s, the company employed over 5,000 workers, producing 120,000 pieces of glass daily. Their creations, renowned for exceptional quality and intricate designs, found admirers worldwide, including in Tsarist Russia and North America. A testament to their artistry is the “Vase of the Nine Provinces,” a monumental piece over 2 meters tall and weighing 200 kilograms, crafted for the 1894 World Exhibition in Antwerp.
The 20th century brought challenges, including the impacts of two World Wars and economic downturns. Despite these obstacles, Val Saint Lambert’s resilience ensured the preservation of its artisanal heritage. Today, the company seamlessly blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design, producing exquisite crystal pieces that cater to modern aesthetics.
Val Saint Lambert stands as a symbol of Belgian craftsmanship, where each piece reflects a harmonious blend of history, artistry, and innovation.
