A 3-piece set of antique fireplace bellows from the 20th century, made of wood, brass and leather, with a wall mount, originating from Belgium (Flanders region), in good used condition with minor age-related wear.
Description from the seller
3rd set of antique fireplace bellows with wall mount
Technical data
Year of manufacture: ca. 1880 – 1900 (late 19th century / Historicism).
Manufacturer: Unmarked artisanal workshop (Dinanderie).
Country of origin: Belgium / Netherlands (Flanders region).
Description
Complete triptych set of 3 antique fireplace bellows (graduated sizes) including a wall mount. Each historical piece on the front is adorned with a detailed, hand-driven brass plate:
Large bellows: Portrait of the Baroque master Peter Paul Rubens ("PETRUS PAULUS RUBENS").
Medium bellows: Flemish tavern and inn scene from the 17th century.
Small bellows: Classic Baroque motifs with flowers and acanthus leaves.
The back consists of thick, vegetable-tanned real leather, fastened with massive ornamental nails. The nozzles are cast from heavy brass.
Note: The wooden wall strip is not original but an addition from the 1960s–1970s to hold the pieces together as a set and to protect the historical backs.
Condition report
Functionality: Fully functional. The internal pump mechanism and valves operate smoothly and create airflow. The interior leather remains unexpectedly soft and flexible in all three pieces.
Brass: In excellent condition with a deep, beautiful patina (chemically untreated).
Exterior leather: Shows age-related dryness and surface wear (especially at the handles). On the small bellows, the leather on the inside is slightly cracked (see photos), which does not affect function.
Hardware: The nails show authentic, natural green patina, confirming great age.
