Description from the seller
Two flags of Congo
1. National flag of Congo-Brazzaville. This striking flag consists of three diagonal color fields: green, yellow and red, the well-known Pan-African colors.
The flag was introduced in 1959, just before France’s independence in 1960. The flag was manufactured in the 1970s.
In good used condition
Size: 111 x 137 cm
2. Old authentic flag from the Zaire period (Democratic Republic of the Congo), used between 1971 and 1997. This flag was manufactured in the 1970s. Material is cotton.
This flag is handmade/old-industrial technique and consists of sewn fabric panels (no print). The star and diagonal stripe are appliqué stitched.
During the Cold War, Zaire was an important ally of Western countries in Central Africa. The country played a strategic role in regional politics and conflicts, and the flag stood internationally as a symbol of a strong, centralized state under Mobutu’s rule.
In 1997, after the fall of Mobutu, the country regained its old name: Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The flag largely retained the same design, but the blue color was officially lightened (sky blue), marking the end of the Zaire period represented by this flag.
Size: 150 x 115
In good used condition
