Hans Arp’s limited edition serigraphy on paper from the Abstraction Création portfolio, dating to 1930, measuring 84 cm high by 65.8 cm wide, Origin France, using mixed media techniques, unsigned and in good condition.
Description from the seller
Screen print on paper, numbered, signed on the back. Work dimensions: height 84 cm x width 65.8 cm. Inscribed on the back 124/150 copies signed with the stamp of the signature and with a back signature by Mme M. Arp, holder of the reproduction rights to Hans Arp's work. Condition of the work: satisfactory, some signs of aging on the piece, humidity marks on the back, and very small creases barely visible. From 1931 to 1936 the Abstraction Création association brought together internationally all artists who wished to express themselves through geometric abstraction. These artists value expression through the “non-objective” form which indeed abstracts from figuration, from the object anchored in reality. In 1973, Max Bill, one of the association’s members, decided to document what the life of this movement had been. He selected 30 flagship works and published them as silkscreens in a boxed set; this work after Hans Arp was part of it. It was issued in 150 copies (plus 50 non-commercial prints numbered in Roman numerals). The revival of some of these works is carried out under the direction of the artists themselves, such as César Doméla. More often, it is the heirs who supervise and guarantee the authenticity of the serigraphy. Or, when it exists, it is the association responsible for managing the continuity of the painter’s oeuvre that handles it. A copy of this portfolio can be found in the collections of the Centre Georges Pompidou. Sold rolled in a sturdy cardboard tube. Apocryphal signature
