Cylindrical ceramic jar with a lid designed by Aldo Londi for Bitossi of Montelupo Fiorentino, in the Mid-Century Modern style dating to 1960–1970, with brown ochre and bronze glaze, weighing 1.4 kg and measuring 15 × 18 cm, one piece in excellent condition with minor wear.
Description from the seller
Splendid and rare cylindrical jar with an artistic ceramic lid, designed by the famous artistic director Aldo Londi for the prestigious Bitossi craftsman of Montelupo Fiorentino (Italy), dating from the late 1960s / early 1970s. The item belongs to the sought-after series with a hand-impressed geometric heart motif (often cataloged as the “Moresco” or “Sahara” series). It features a beautiful color combination: the base is glazed in warm ochre and brown tones, while the lid shows a textured, earthy dark finish typical of the brutalist style of the period. The bottom of the jar is flat and free of impressed marks, a very common characteristic for pieces in this export-oriented series, which originally bore only a paper label. Under the lid the spiral mark left by detaching from the hand lathe is clearly visible, further proof of authenticity and the handcrafted nature of the piece. The object is exceptionally heavy (1.4 kg) and robust, a testament to the quality of the raw material used to make it. Conditions: the item is in excellent condition, completely intact. No cracks, crazing, or chips reported on the body or lid (including the inner edges of the interlocking rims, usually very fragile). A collectible piece in an exceptional state of preservation.
