The Horse With a Treatise on Draught A very comprehensive late Georgian work on the horse, covering every possible aspect including different breeds, anatomy, diseases, habits, medicines, veterinary practice and draught with a description of cartwheels and roads. This was a standard work on natural history, general management and treatment of the horse in health and disease, throughout the nineteenth century. The book is illustrated with vignette title page, and over 50 engravings. Published by Charles Knight, London, 1849. Publishers’ original half leather with marbled boards. Spines with six bands ruled in gilt, the titles are in gilt within red label to compartments two. Marbled endpapers, and all page edges. Book Dimensions: 22 x 14 cm and Number of Pages: 581 including index Condition Firm and well-bound copy. External covers with some faded marks and scuffing to the leather, and with light wear to corners, and spine ends. Internally; the book in good condition. Minor age toning to the margins of some pages, and page edges. Inner hinges are very good, and pages are tightly held at gutters. The text and illustrations are clean and bright (Nice Copy) (Please see pictures). The Author “William Youatt became highly esteemed in his chosen profession and was perhaps the most influential veterinarian of his day. Of him, Charles Darwin said, "I have generally found Youatt an accurate man, & a very sagacious man, for I knew him personally." In 1838 the Royal Agricultural Society of England was founded, and Youatt was one of the original members, and the chairman of the veterinary committee. He is credited with many rational developments in veterinary medicine.,."
