Description from the seller

Rare Service à Poisson, Masse Frères (Desvres) - Design Giovanni Stefani, 1950-60, 8 Pieces

Description :
Exceptional faience table service from Desvres, dating from the 1950s-1960s. This service, with a decisively modern and graphic design, stems from the collaboration between the famous factory Masse Frères and the artist-designer Giovanni Stefani.
Each piece features a stylized ichthyological motif in black on a contrasted two-tone background (mustard yellow and deep black), typical of 1950s aesthetics. Stefani’s minimalist and dynamic line gives this set an artistic look close to certain Vallauris productions from the same era.

Lot details :
• Artist: Giovanni Stefani
• Manufacture: Masse Frères (Desvres, France)
• Period: 1950-1960
• Condition: Excellent overall. The glaze retains a beautiful gloss and the porcelain shows no wear.

Composition and dimensions :
• 7 fish plates (oval shape): 24 cm x 19.5 cm. Each plate depicts a different species (trout, sea robin, sailfish, mackerel, pike, perch, red mullet)
• 1 shuttle dish: 15 cm x 11.5 cm.
Represented fish: sea bass

Markings: Signature present on the reverse of each piece: "Masse frères, DESVRES, d’après STEFANI".
