A vintage helmet‑shaped silver teapot in sterling 925 from London, dating to circa 1750–1800, with extensive repoussé floral and Rocaille decoration, a gilt interior, and weighing 94 g (11 × 11.5 × 6.5 cm).
Description from the seller
The little jug shows the classic helmet shape (Helmet Shape), which was particularly popular in the late Georgian era. The entire exterior wall is adorned with elaborate repoussé work: floral motifs, curved Rocaille cartouches and garlands of flowers testify to masterful craftsmanship.
An empty cartouche on the front originally offered space for a monogram or family crest – it was never engraved and is therefore untouched.
The raised band handle with fine ribbed texture sits pleasantly in the hand. Special highlight: The inside is fully gold-plated (vermeil) – a typical quality feature of upscale pieces that protected the silver from acid in milk and cream.
Punzen
On the underside are the typical London hallmarks:
• Lion passant (Sterling Silver 925/1000)
• Leopard head (City mark London)
• Date letter
• Master mark
All hallmarks are clearly legible and attest to authenticity and origin
Very well preserved for a piece over 220 years old:
• No cracks, holes or repairs
• Handle firm and stable
• Interior gilding largely intact with age-appropriate patina
• Light signs of wear on the base (as befits its age)
• Hallmarks complete and well legible
