Bead (9) - Afghanistan - Beads from Nuristan

These are nine very rare drilled bone beads collected in Afghanistan in the 1970's. Decorated with incised traditional symbols and designs these date to the very early 20th century. They show some sign of wear and have some patina making and soft to the touch.

These beads are described in "Collectible Beads" by Robert K. Lui on page 137. 'Nuristan bone beads from Afghanistan: made from drilled leg bones, using perhaps a small mammal or large bird...... Bone beads are uncommon in ethnographic jewelry"

The length of the beads range from 9cm to 6.5cm
