Turkmenistan origin traditional wedding headpiece dating to circa 1970–1980, a metal cap with a domed terminal, cascading pendants and coins in a silver alloy, a red cabochon centerpiece, white beads and small metallic drop pendants, back with a damask floral fabric, weight 440 g, dimensions 140 x 170 mm, in good vintage condition with light signs of wear.

Fascinating traditional Turkmen wedding headpiece. Splendid and rare traditional Turkmen wedding headpiece. Tribal Art of Turkmenistan. A captivating piece of tribal and ceremonial Eastern art: a traditional Turkmen wedding headpiece. This splendid artifact was worn by young women and brides during wedding ceremonies and festive days as a symbol of status, protection, and transition into adult life.
Characteristics and Details:
• Craftsmanship: The headpiece is topped by a typical metal dome with a pinnacled terminal. It is richly adorned with a cascade of pendants, geometric elements, and coins/discs in worked silver alloy, designed to move and produce a harmonious sound with every motion (with an apotropaic function to ward off evil spirits).
• Central Details: At the center stands a large teardrop-shaped element adorned with a red setting (castone) (symbol of vitality and protection). Along the lower edges run rows of white beads and small metallic diamond-shaped pendants that create a magnificent fringe.
• Fabric Elements: At the back hangs the traditional damask/flowered fabric strip finely finished, which served to frame the bride’s face and back.
