Jean-Marie Guiny is one of the most recognized French engravers of the second half of the 20th century, specializing in animal themes: horses, bulls and big cats. A passionate rider, he traveled through the Camargue and journeyed to Spain and Portugal to study Andalusian and Lusitanian horses, which directly inspired this work.
“Hermoso” powerfully portrays an encounter between a bull and a horse, in an expressive style characteristic of the artist: bold lines, dynamic forms, a warm palette with ochre, brown and black tones. A scene that evokes the Iberian equestrian and bullfighting tradition.
The work is accompanied by a handwritten and signed certificate of authenticity by the artist himself, dated December 1, 2000 (Paris), certifying that he is indeed the author of the engraving “Hermoso.” This rare and precious document significantly enhances the piece’s value, all the more so since the artist passed away in 2010.
