AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Extremely rare and museum-worthy 18th-century silver cabaret, made in 1743 by the Amsterdam silversmith Hendrik Swierinck (1693–1771), a recognized specialist in large silverware. This impressive square board belongs to the high-quality Dutch Rococo silversmithing from the mid-18th century.

The large square panel with chamfered corners has a richly molded edge, beautifully adorned with Rocaille ornaments, characteristic of the Rococo style. The cabaret rests on four panel-shaped feet, giving the object a stately and monumental appearance. The quality of the raised and cast work underscores Swierinck's exceptional craftsmanship.

The cabaret is fully hallmarked on the underside with:

Stadskeur Amsterdam
Meesterteken HS (Hendrik Swierinck)
Gehaltekeur
Jaarletter I voor 1743
Gekroonde O
Also provided with a trembleersteek

With a weight of 714 grams and generous dimensions of 30.5 × 30.5 cm, this is a substantial and representative object.

About the silversmith

Hendrik Swierinck was born in 1693 in Zwolle, the son of Berent Swierinck. In 1726 he obtained the city citizenship of Amsterdam and settled there as a silversmith. In 1733 he married Catharina van Huet and moved to Rozengracht. His son Barend Swierinck also entered the trade.

Swierinck was known as a specialist in large works, particularly silver panels. His work today is found in museums, at major auctions, and in the international art trade. The last known works with his master mark date from 1771, which suggests he must have died shortly thereafter.
