Description from the seller
Pair of Chinese vases in oxblood glazed porcelain - baluster shape.
Period: early 20th century.
The “Sang de Boeuf” glaze work, the typical deep red with subtle variations in tone, shows the artisan skill in its making.
The complex production process of this hue, obtained through an oxidation process of iron and copper, is documented for the first time in China between the 11th and 13th centuries. European terracotta producers were not able to replicate the long firing process required for production until the 20th century, leaving China with the monopoly on these wares for centuries.
These vases, representing a fusion of artistic expression and technical mastery, have an aesthetic appeal beyond their historical importance.
One of the two vases is in perfect condition, the other has only an imperceptible repair at the top edge.
Shipping will be swift and insured, with careful packing.
