Description from the seller
Vintage bronze censer (incense burner) – Study room.
A refined, compact Chinese bronze miniature incense burner (censer) with lid, specially designed for the classical study room (文房 - wenfang).
The object is richly detailed, shaped as a lifelike bamboo stalk (bamboo node), adorned with relief prints of bamboo leaves. On the side there is a decorative cicada resting on the trunk. The removable lid features an openwork pattern of bamboo leaves, allowing the incense smoke to escape subtly.
At the bottom, the burner bears a clearly legible square cast seal mark (底款) in traditional seal script (篆书). The mark reads "竹园" (Zhú Yuán), which can be translated as "Bamboo Garden". This refers to the studio or workshop of origin.
Specifications:
Material: Bronze
Depiction: Bamboo with cicada (symbol of rebirth and steadfastness)
Height: approx. 4 cm
Width/Diameter: approx. 4.5 cm
Origin: Asia
Period: Late Qing Dynasty to 20th century
Condition: In good condition with a beautiful, well-aged dark patina and light signs of aging in keeping with its age (see photos). The lid closes well.
A stunning collectible for enthusiasts of Asian art, bronze works, and unique incense burners.
