Historical Art Nouveau / Historicism tin lid box – Floral relief decoration
Decorative, round tin lid box (jewelry box / bonbonniere) in tin from the historicizing Art Nouveau style. The item stands on four curved feet with Rocaille and foliage elements and features two side, three-dimensionally formed handles. Both the walls and the domed lid are decorated with a surrounding, hammered/produced relief decoration of generous blossoms (chrysanthemums or asters) and foliage. It is crowned by an elegantly pierced lid knob. A charming collectible for lovers of classic tin objects.
Manufacturer:
Origin: Germany, or France (Central Europe).
Year/Period: ca. 1890–1910 (late Historicism / early Art Nouveau).
Style: Art Nouveau with historicizing elements (Neo-Rococo influences on feet and handles).
Technique: Casting (tin alloy casting) with subsequent surface finishing (relief).
Material: Tin (tin alloy / possibly Britannia metal with dark patina).
