Paul Jouve (1878–1973) was a French painter, draftsman, and illustrator, recognized as one of the leading animal artists of the 20th century. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he developed an early fascination with the animal world, which he observed with scientific rigor and a keen sense of movement. Influenced by Art Deco and by his many travels, notably to North Africa, Paul Jouve stands out for powerful compositions, controlled lines, and an elegant stylization of forms. His work, marked by the nobility and strength of wild animals, earned him international recognition and a major place in the history of modern animal art.
