Description from the seller
Splendid Renaissance-style furnishing set, consisting of two chairs model "Savonarola" and a coordinated side table with an inlaid chessboard. Made by Italian artisan carpenters, in wood, handmade, in the mid-20th century.
These are two elegant chairs, Savonarola model, foldable, like a book, in wood, composed of serpentine curved elements and X-crossed, with backrest and armrests; the decorative forms are entirely hand-carved.
In the armrests are carved the heads of lions.
The term Savonarola derives from the name Girolamo Savonarola (1452 - 1498), during whose time the chair of this type would still be preserved in his cell at the San Marco convent in Florence, where he lived from 1482 until his death. The side table has on its top an engraved chessboard.
Savonarola open dimensions:
65 x 50 cm, height about 84 cm.
Savonarola closed dimensions:
15 x 48 cm, height about 85 cm.
Weight 9 kg approx. each.
Table dimensions:
48 x 48 cm, height 65 cm.
In good state of preservation, show signs due to use and time.
For shipment, the tabletop will be dismantled.
