This elegant Japanese lacquerware fubako (文箱, document box) was produced in the tradition of Echizen lacquerware (越前漆器), one of Japan’s most respected lacquer-producing regions.

Crafted from wood and finished in deep black urushi lacquer, the lid is decorated with a broad band of gold leaf featuring a refined depiction of pine trees (松). The composition is intentionally minimalist, combining the contrast of glossy black lacquer with the warm brilliance of gold to create a calm and sophisticated appearance.

The finely textured vertical surface treatment adds visual depth while maintaining a restrained aesthetic characteristic of modern Japanese lacquerware.
