Stone obelisk with stylised hieroglyphs on four faces, 22 cm high, 8 cm wide and 8 cm deep, dating to 1970–1980, from Egypt, in good used condition with minor signs of age.
Description from the seller
It is a 22 cm stone obelisk, compact, solemn, and with that archaic air evoked by pieces inspired by the pharaonic world. The stone, with its speckled reddish tone and dense texture, gives it an almost mineral presence, as if it were a fragment recovered from an ancient temple. On its four faces, stylized hieroglyphs are hinted at, carved with a simple stroke but sufficient to suggest the Egyptian iconography: vertical signs, schematic figures, and lines reminiscent of votive inscriptions.
The form is the classic obelisk: a shaft that rises in a slight pyramid and culminates in a smoothly rounded tip, a modern reinterpretation of the solar pyramidion. The stepped base provides stability and an architectural gesture that reinforces its symbolic character. Although it is a decorative piece from the second half of the 20th century, it preserves the essence of the obelisk as a symbol of ascent, light, and eternity, a small domestic monument that condenses the aesthetics of Ancient Egypt into an accessible format.
