Description from the seller
Pair matching religious candlesticks from the Val Saint Lambert crystal factory. It concerns the model "Sacré-Coeur" (Sacred Heart), which was originally designed in 1913 and produced until about 1930. The set consists of a candlestick with the figure of Jesus Christ and a candlestick with the figure of the Holy Virgin Mary. Both figures are beautifully and finely detailed in heavy, clear cut crystal, with the authentic vertical seam lines from the original casting mold still subtly visible. What makes this specific pair truly unique and exceedingly rare is its complete condition. Whereas in the vast majority of remaining sets the fragile glass components have been lost over the decades, this set is still entirely intact. The candlesticks are provided with the original, loose bobeches (glass little plates) to which all characteristic crystal pendeloques (pendants) are still present. These pendeloques feature the distinctive stepped Art Deco border motif that was specially designed for this Val Saint Lambert series and truly reflects the candlelight in a breathtaking way. In the deeper veins of the crystal, the original traces of the authentic gold leaf gilding are still beautifully visible. This gives the set an extra historical layering and proves its great age of over a hundred years. The candlesticks are in a very handsome, display-worthy antique condition, appropriate to their age, and form a atmospheric showpiece on any mantelpiece or sideboard.
