Description from the seller
Pair of pharmacy amphorae in polychrome tin-glazed earthenware, hand-decorated – Italy – 19th/20th century
Description
Elegant pair of polychrome tin-glazed earthenware amphorae hand-decorated with a large yellow floral motif surrounded by stylized green leaves and brown details.
The vessels feature the classic amphora shape with a cylindrical neck and ring-foot. One specimen retains the two original handles, while the second has only one surviving handle.
The decoration, painted by hand on a light, craquelé background, recalls the tradition of Italian folk ceramic intended for home furnishings, for storing goods, or for use in rural shops and pharmacies.
The surfaces show an authentic patina and pronounced wear due to long-term use and the passage of time, elements that attest to the objects’ genuine antiquity.
Decorative objects of strong character, ideal for collectors of antique maiolica and Italian folk ceramics.
