Battista Nani — History of the Venetian Republic — Venice, Combi & La Nou, 1663
Ancient seventeenth-century edition of the famous historical work by Battista Nani, a Venetian historian, diplomat, Knight and Procurator of Saint Mark.
Venetian edition of 1663, indicated on the title page as “Seconda impressione” (Second impression), printed in Venetia for Combi & La Nou, with the license of the Superiors and privilege.
The work covers the history of the Republic of Venice in the seventeenth century, with particular attention to the political, diplomatic, and military events of the Serenissima. Text in Italian.
Collation of the complete copy: Pp. [8], 744, [24].
Copy bound in contemporary full parchment, with manuscript title on the spine. Title page with a woodcut vignette, text within a typographic frame, drop caps, references, and a large final index.
Copy complete and legible, with normal signs of time and use: stains, browning, halos, yellowing, small creases, edge and binding wear. Worn binding, with old handwritten marks on the spine and covers. Defects and signs of use as visible in the photographs.
