Description from the seller
A ‘ghurra’ keeps the churning-rod in place during the churning of the milk. Hindu and Buddhist Nepali beliefs hold the myth that ‘man & woman’ were created after the Gods churned the primal ocean. The ghurra often depicts scenes from daily life or can carry beautiful abstract messages. Sometimes they are anthropomorphic, or phallic. Very often they acquire beautiful wear and patina from intensive use. The huge variety and affordability of these objects make them an interesting subject for collecting.
Good condition with traces of tribal use.
Provenance: former private collection from Germany
