Ceramic plate from Umbria, Italy, dating to 1850–1900, with gold and ruby lustration, diameter 42.4 cm, height 6 cm, depth 4 cm, in good used condition with slight signs of age and minor rim chips; likely from Gualdo Tadino and possibly Daria Rubboli ca. 1890–1900, decorative parade-type piece.
Description from the seller
Plate with the typical gold lusters and ruby red glaze from Gualdo Tadino, perhaps attributable to the Daria Rubboli manufactory from the 1890s-1900s. In the deep cavetto is depicted a girl in profile with a cartouche beside her identifying her as “Ivana Bella” and the date 152(…); therefore this is a plate of the so-called “amorous” and “parade” type, i.e., large in size and intended solely for ornamental purposes. But in the cavetto one can also admire flowers and leaves in gold and ruby colors with the same tones as the girl’s dress. The rim is divided into four compartments, painted with floral motifs in gold and ruby luster, bounded by bands of equal colors and with cord fringe decorations and buds still closed. Note with what finesse the girl’s face and hair were painted and, moreover, how her light complexion is enhanced by the blue background. Diameter: 42.4 cm; height: 6 cm; depth: 4 cm. A slight firing flaw affecting the right side between the rim and the cavetto (see photos 5-6-7) and small chips along the edge. The images attest to the condition of the artifact. Provenance: from my collection. SHIPPING ONLY TO EU.
