Stone funerary statuette of Bakongo origin from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, provenance private collection, height 16 cm, width 1 cm, depth 1 cm, weight 1 g, in good condition.
Description from the seller
This statuette is part of a set of four funerary stone figurines attributed to the Bakongo cultural area (Bas-Congo).
Sculpted in a soft stone with a beautiful ancient patina, these anthropomorphic representations are distinguished by their varied attitudes, expressive faces and deeply evocative character.
Originally intended for commemorative and funerary contexts, they bear witness to the region's artistic and spiritual traditions.
Attention, the piece is sold separately, not as a lot.
I offer an original set of ethnographic objects from the colonial era brought back from the Congo/Zaire by a Belgian engineer who traversed the country in the course of his activities.
The collection comprises figurines carved in wood and stone, masks, as well as various utilitarian and representational objects from local cultures.
This varied ensemble illustrates the richness of artisanal know-how and material traditions of Central Africa at a pivotal period in its history.
Collected over time, this lot holds definite interest for both collectors of African ethnography and enthusiasts of antique objects and historical testimonies. The diversity of materials, forms and uses gives the whole a beautiful coherence and a remarkable presence, quite characteristic of that era.
Shipping guaranteed within 24 hours, with careful packaging, insurance and tracking. Contact 7 days a week: we remain available for any questions or requests for further information.
