Vintage Staunton chess set from the 1950s–1960s, crafted in wood, comprising 32 pieces with a board and original pine box, origin Netherlands, in good vintage condition.
Description from the seller
Beautiful vintage chess set consisting of 32 chess pieces packed in the original pinewood box with a sliding lid and including a chessboard.
The chess pieces are turned from boxwood; 16 pieces are natural/light and the other 16 pieces are black-polished.
The squares on the chessboard (and checkers board) have been inlaid by maquetterie with mahogany (dark) and with maple (light); for protection the chessboard is surrounded by a solid beechwood edge, and after manufacture the board is finished with a clear varnish.
The wooden storage box has a rabbet joint at the 4 corners; this construction provides extra strength to the box.
The design of these chess pieces is attributed to Nathaniel Cooke, they carry the name of the British chess player Howard Staunton who promoted the use of this model.
Dimensions: chessboard 44 cm x 44 cm x 1.2 cm, the chess pieces vary in height from 3.7 cm to 7.4 cm and the dimensions of the box are 19.4 cm x 10 cm x 6.5 cm.
Total weight: 1265 grams.
The chess pieces, the chessboard and the box are in good vintage condition considering their age with minor signs of use appropriate to the age and use.
Carefully packed and sent by registered mail with track and trace.
