Italy - Military equipment - 1923

In auction, an exceptional and rare vintage set of electroplated silverware (plateal) belonging to the Regia Aeronautica Militare Italiana. This lot comes from a prestigious family inheritance and represents a piece of aviation history and Italian industrial design of the 20th century.
The set is composed of three fundamental pieces:
- A Table Knife: Length about 24-25 cm. The stainless steel blade is original and well preserved, with a discreet edge. On the blade the producer's stamp is clearly visible: "F.lli BROGGI - MILANO", synonymous with high Milanese artisanal quality (see images ⁠image_4.png⁠ and ⁠image_6.png⁠).
- A Table Spoon: Length about 20-21 cm (see image ⁠image_3.png⁠ for reference with tape measure).
- A Table Fork: Length about 20-21 cm (see image ⁠image_3.png⁠ for reference with tape measure).
Relief Details:
1 Regal Aeronautica Emblem: The most significant and collectible element of this set is the emblem engraved on the end of the handle of all three pieces (as shown in close-ups, for example in ⁠image_1.png⁠). The engraving clearly depicts an eagle with wings spread above the Italian royal crown, official symbol of the Regia Aeronautica during the fascist period. The engraving is sharp and well defined, indicating an authentic official supply.
2 Handle Design: All the cutlery pieces feature an elegant handle decorated with a knot motif (or double eight) at the base and a grooved fillet along the edges, a sober and refined style typical of official furnishings of the era.
3 Producer Stamping: As mentioned, the knife blade bears the full stamp "F.lli BROGGI - MILANO" (see image_4.png). This confirms origin from one of Milan’s most renowned cutlery and silversmiths, historically supplying institutions and the high bourgeoisie.
4 Authentic Conservation State: The cutlery shows a natural patina of oxidation that enhances their authenticity and history, as seen by comparing images ⁠image_0.png⁠ (oxidized front) and ⁠image_4.png⁠ (back with patina). The silvering is still robust, but oxidation is present in a widespread and uniform manner, which is normal for pieces of this age and adds collectible value. The metal surfaces show signs of surface wear and micro-scratches consistent with age and use.

Original and authentic vintage pieces. They exhibit a widespread natural oxidation patina (as visible in the photos ⁠image_0.png⁠ and ⁠image_4.png⁠), which has not been cleaned to preserve historic appearance and authenticity. The oxidation is widespread over the silvered surfaces of all pieces. The surfaces show light scratches and signs of surface wear consistent with age and historical use. The knife blade is in good condition. The tines of the fork are straight and intact. The engraved emblem of the Regia Aeronautica is sharp and clearly legible on all pieces. There are no significant dents or structural damage. Please closely examine all close-up images to assess the oxidation state and surface wear.
