Bronze Shiva statuette on marble base – India, second half 20th century

Statuette representing Shiva (Mahadeva), one of the most important deities of the Hindu pantheon, made of bronze and mounted on a massive black marble base.

The piece stands out for the careful execution of the iconographic details specific to Shiva: the trident (Trishula), sacred cobra, dorsal halo, ritual ornaments and meditative posture. The finish presents a warm, uniform patina, which highlights the volume and expressiveness of the modeling.

The statue was made by traditional casting, followed by manual interventions and finishes visible in the decorative engravings, the contouring of the garments and the definition of the symbolic elements. The considerable weight compared to the dimensions indicates or massive piece, made of bronze.
