Montblanc Masterpiece 742N fountain pen with a sterling silver body and cap vermeil finish, 14K gold nib, piston filling mechanism, 12.9 cm long and 1.1 cm diameter, made in Germany in the mid-20th century, in good used condition with minor wear.
Description from the seller
A0000002068
The fountain pen is presented in very good overall condition, maintaining an excellent aesthetic and structural presence for a vintage model of this era.
The body and cap, made in sterling silver with gold plating (vermeil), retain a uniform, bright gold finish, with very light wear consistent with use and age, visible only upon close inspection. No dents, dings, or deformities are observed; the wavy engraving remains sharp, deep, and well defined across the entire surface.
The central ring, engraved “Montblanc,” clearly preserves its inscription, with minimal signs of superficial wear, without material loss or deformations. The gold-plated clip is straight, firm, and correctly aligned, maintaining good shine and functional tension.
The white Montblanc emblem at the top of the cap is complete, well centered, and without cracks, a point especially valued in this model.
The solid 14K gold nib (585) is original, features well-defined engravings and shows correct alignment of the nib tines, with no signs of unusual wear, bites, or visible repairs. The writing tip retains a good profile and finish.
The piston-filler mechanism works correctly, with smooth rotation and full travel, indicating a well-functioning internal mechanism.
Overall, this is an honest, cared-for, and well-preserved piece, ideal for both collection and occasional use, that maintains the character and elegance of postwar Montblanc Masterpieces.
It will be sent in a courtesy box for proper preservation.
Good luck with the auction!
