Description from the seller
Shigaraki Ware Tea Bowl by Jinsai Ogawa, with Signed Wooden Box
This expressive Shigaraki ware tea bowl was created by Japanese ceramic artist Jinsai Ogawa.
Born in 1914 as the eldest son of the third-generation Ogawa Tokusai, Jinsai studied pottery under his father and uncle. He established the Jinsai pottery studio in Shigaraki in 1948 and is also said to have later succeeded to the Ogawa Tokusai name.
The bowl displays the powerful and natural character associated with Shigaraki pottery. Its surface features warm reddish firing tones, pale ash-like areas, and a dramatic dark green-to-black kiln-transformed glaze. Small stone particles and irregular textures within the clay create a rustic and highly individual appearance.
The rounded, substantial form makes it suitable for use as a matcha tea bowl, while its rich surface and striking kiln effects also make it an attractive piece for display.
The wooden box is inscribed “Shigaraki Tea Bowl” and bears the signature “Jinsai.”
No major cracks or chips are visible in the supplied photograph. Please examine all photographs carefully for the precise condition.
